Local Area Information

La Alqueria is a small hamlet approximately 2 km from the village of Comares. The house is in Huerta Baja, which means lower orchard. The area is full of citrus trees, mangos, almonds, pomegranates and of course olives.

Comares is approximately 700m above sea level and is known as the Balcony of Axarquia. There are several walks in and around Comares, for further details please look at the links page where you will also find information on the history of the area, the flora and fauna and lots of other useful information.

The Tourist Information in Comares is located in La Plaza Balcon de La Axarquia which is the main square as you enter the village. From here you will also find bars, restaurants, shops, banks and post office, tobacconist and the pharmacy.

If you fancy exploring a bit further afield then you are spolit for choice. Within about 2 hours you could be in Granada, Seville, Gibraltar, Ronda or Cordoba taking in the amazing history that Spain has to offer, as well as fantastic views around every corner. Malaga is about a 45 minute drive where you will find shops, museums and much, much more.

Torre del Mar is the nearest beach to the house, and is still relatively unspoilt compared to some of the other resorts along the Costa del Sol. You are also only a stones throw from Lake Vinuela where you can swim, do water sports or just relax and drink in the views.

Other activities in the area include historic sites, caves, museums, walking, cycling, golf, horse riding, water sports, water park, bird watching, flying, climbing and zip wire - the longest in Spain. Please ask if you require further information on any of these activities.
